FRIDAY, MARCH 30

Happy 77th birthday wishes to Charlie McConnell from wife Maxine, and his many friends.

I received a call from caretaker Tom from Blue Mountain Lake that he measured one-inch of new snow and this will be the first year that he won't need snowshoes on the opening day of trout season this weekend to get to his fishing spot. He said the ice should be completely out of the lake after this weekend.

One hundred years ago today, the Village of Croghan was devastated by a huge fire in the downtown section. The fire reportedly started at 2:30 p.m. when a brush fire in a backyard spread to a nearby building by high winds. Two children died and 32 buildings were destroyed by the inferno. Close to $500,000 in property losses was reported.
