Five people were injured in a 3 car motor vehicle accident at the construction zone inLowville yesterday morning. Charges are pending against a 92 year old woman who allegedlywent past the construction flag person at a higher rate of speed striking twoother vehicles moving through the construction zone..
Lowville Village Police reported to local media that KatherineRozanski of Lowville apparently dropped her purse on the floor of her car; whenshe tried to move it with her feet, the vehicle accelerated and slammed intothe vehicle in front of her driven by 21 year old Scott teal of Lowville. His car was shoved out of the way and Officials said Rozanski's car then struck a third vehicle in front of her driven by 62year old Lester Schermerhorn of Castorland. Flag workers in the constructionzone were forced to jump out of the way, police said.
In all, five people were hurt, including Rozanski, her two passengers, 83 yearolds Herbert and Bernadette Farney of Lowville, Scott Teal, the driver of thesecond car as well as a passenger in the third car, 50 year old Peggy Hosmer.All injured were taken to Lewis County General Hospital for treatment of theirinjuries. South State Street was closed for two hours until the scene could becleared. The accident is still under investigation.
