Town of Webb, February 16th: A 56 year old Pennsylvania man was killed last night in a snowmobile accident.
Investigators from the Town of Webb Police report that the accident occurred at 10:22pm (Thursday, February 16th) on TrailC7B, near the Lewis County Line, otherwise known as the “Brantingham Ten-Mile Crossing”. A Brantingham Snowmobile Club groomer operator discovered the accident, and Interviews from the groomer operator indicate that the sled was on fire and the victim was approximately 22 feet away from the snowmobile. CPR was in progress as the groomer arrived. The Herkimer County Coroner officially pronounced the victim deceased on the scene. The victim has been identified as George J. Hollenden, 56, of Warrington, PA. Investigations revealed that Hollenden was traveling in a southerly direction and reportedly lost control of the sled, struck a tree and was ejected. His riding party discovered him shortly following the accident. The Inlet Police, Big Moose Fire & Ambulance crews, Inlet Fire & Ambulance crews, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, NYS Forest Rangers, Lewis County Fire Coordinator and Lewis County Search & Rescue all assisted on the scene.
