Squeaky and Buck in Carthage called to wish Emma Wheelock of Holland Patent a happy 89th birthday.
On my way to the radio station at 4 a.m. there were micro flakes of snow in the air and, by 4:30 a.m., heavy rain arrived. By 6 a.m., the rain gauge collected .10" and, at 36 degrees, our mailbox was coated with ice. Just before 9 a.m., I received a call from Kayuta Lake to report that hail stones the size of peas were found in that area. Sometimes hail stones can create a lot of damage. In 1988, hail stones up to 4 inches in diameter pounded the Oklahoma City area. At a General Motors assembly plant, 1,500 brand-new cars were totaled, and at Tinker Air Force Base, some of their large aircraft also sustained major damage.
