Thesefires cost an estimated 6.6 billion in property loss. Smoke detectors on every level of your homeincrease your chance of survival. Youshould also always have two ways out in order to help you survive in a fireemergency. Create an escape plan andmake sure everyone in your home practices it.Plan two routes of escape and designate a meeting place outside of thehome and NEVER go back inside. Checksmoke detectors often and change your batteries when you change your clocks inthe spring and fall. Smoking is thenumber one cause of home fire deaths in the US.Make sure your cigarette is fully extinguished and run cigarette ashesand butts under water before throwing them away.
