Spontaneous Combustion is said to be the cause of three fires which started in three tractors within a period of 8 hours last weekend at the Demko farm in the Town of Martinsburg. Lewis County fire coordinator Jim Martin said he is 99 percent sure that it appears chaff and dust on the engines caused the fires.
The large dual-wheeled tractors were being used to pack down piles of hay and silage and push them into storage containers. Mr Martin went on to say that he sees no reason to suspect foul play in the fires that were called in at roughly midnight, 3, and 8 AM on Sunday.
