Boonville; Harley R. Gleasman, 90, a long time resident of Moose River Road, husband of the late Jean, passed away at his residence, on Sunday, March 24, 2013, after a short illness, while under the loving care of his family and hospice.
Harley was born in Ava, on July 21, 1922; he grew up on the family homestead farm, on Glesman Road in the Town of Ava, movng to Ann St. in Boonville, with his family in 1936, where he graduated from Boonville HIgh School with the Class of 1940.
On November 9, 1945, Harley entered the U.S. Army, at Syracuse, serving his country at Kennedy General Hospital, Memphis, TN, where he was honorably discharged on March 26, 1946, as a Private with Company 5, 1225th Service Command Unit.
Mr. Gleasman was employed as an auto mechanic and attendant at Bourgeois Esso Gas Station in downtown Boonville. In 1962, he purchased a liquor store in Lowville; in 1965, Mr. Gleasman relocated this store to Boonville, operating the liquor store in conjuntion with a laundry mat, know as Harley Gleasman Liquor Store and Laundry Mat, at the corner of Rt. 12 and East Schuyler St. Later he sold these businesses and purchased the Montgomery Ward Catalog Agency, which he and his wife, Jean, operated for several years. After that for twenty years, he was associated with a real estate agent with Century 21-Gentry Realty Co. of Boonville. In 1969, Harley and Jean moved from the Fish Creek Road, Town of Highmarket, to their present home on the Moose River Road.
On July 6, 1957, Harley with united in marriage with Jean Goodhines at St. Mary's Church, West Leyden. Mrs Gleasman died on May 17, 2009.
He greatly enjoyed fishing, trapping, and spending time at his hunting camp on the Woodhull River, near Forestport. At the age of 89, he embarked on a mule deer hunting trip to Montana, where he succeeded in tagging a trophy buck.
Mr. Gleasman loved his family. He was predeceased by his three children; a daughter Laurie Ann Gleasman who died as an infant, on January 10, 1966; and by two sons, Gary M. on May 29, 2006, and by Philip, on December 20, 2009. He is survived by two grandchildren, Travis Gleasman, Boonville, and Ashley Gleasman, Alder Creek, four great grandchildren, Bailey and Brady Gleasman, Trevor and Jarrett Ringwalk; and one daughter in law, Lana Gleasman, Boonville.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Committal and Military Services later this spring in St Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville, at a time to be announced. memorial contribution may be made to the Gleasman Scholarship Fund, C/O Adirondack Central High School, 8181 State Rte. 294, Boonville, NY 13309, or to the American Cancer Soceity Oneida/Herkimer Branch Office 100 Lomond Place Utica, NY 13502.
