Joyce G. Lee

May 6, 1929 to April 13, 2013

TURIN – Joyce G. Lee 83, of East Road, a resident of Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility died on Saturday evening April 13, 2013.

She was born in the town of Leyden the daughter of the late Cecil E. and Mary A. Kelly Gillette on May 6, 1929. Joyce graduated from General Martin High School. On October 28, 1948 she married James A. Lee at the Turin Methodist Church. She and her husband owned and managed family dairy farm on the East Road. James died on June 5, 2010.

Joyce was involved in the local community where she and Jim were members of the Holstein club, and the Turin Grange. She served on the Board of Elections for over 35 years for the town of Turin. Joyce was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She was a member of Turin United Methodist Church where she was a past Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir where she sang solo’s on special occasions.

Joyce is survived by her son and his family, James W. and Linda and their children, Michael J., Matthew J., and Desiree A.; her brother John Gillette of Chittenango; her sister, Eileen Zeman of Macedonia, Ohio; her brother-in-law ,Francis Lee of Lowville; several nieces and nephews.

A son, John Stanley Lee; three brothers, Carl, Hugh and William Gillette; two sisters, Maria Conway, Eleanor Bush; and her half-brother, Perce Gillette predeceases her.

Joyce was an avid reader and loved to knit. Every spring she enjoyed planning her garden with the grandchildren and also spent many hours on her flower gardens.

Her funeral will be on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home with Rev. Beth O’Neil, Pastor of the Lowville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Turin Cemetery.

Calling hours for family and friends will be on Tuesday from 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
