Helen M. Mihalko

January 13, 1921 to May 27, 2013

Boonville- Helen M. Mihalko, 92, widow of Joseph, a former resident of Rt. 12, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2013, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where she had resided since 2011.

She was born in Throop, Pennsylvania, on January 13, 1921, a daughter of Peter and Margaret Korman Mohnach. Helen grew up in Pennsylvania, later moving to Detroit, MI. On October 5, 1938, she was united in marriage with Joseph Mihalko, Sr. at St. Bernard's Church, Detroit, MI. In 1953, the family moved to Boonville, and purchased the "Bonnie Brook" dairy farm on Rt. 12 south of Boonville. Together the couple operated this farm until 1980, when they retired. At that time the dairy farm was purchased by one of their sons, Joseph. In 1980, the couple moved to Moose River Road, where she resided until entering the nursing home. Mr. Mihalko died on November 23, 1995.

Mrs. Mihalko was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, Secretary and member of Daughters of Isabella St. Clare Circle, # 493, and a member of St. Joseph's Altar & Rosary Society. She greatly enjoyed bowling and bowled on a Boonville area league for 45 years. Helen was a terrific cook and baker who will be fondly remembered for her home made noodles and Polish dishes. She also loved berry picking.

Helen is survived by two sons, Joseph Mihalko, James (Audrey) Mihalko, all of Boonville; and two daughters, Donna Gunzinger, Cobleskill, NY and Patricia Mihalko, Richfield Springs, NY; ten grandchildren, Barb, Sandy, Laurie, Edward, Randy Mihalko, Geoff Mihalko, Brian Mihalko, Jamie Mihalko, Kristi Kenney and Ryan Gunzinger, and seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Mihalko was predeceased by three sisters, Margaret Barsh, Mary Simonick and Anna Kafka, and by two brothers, John and William Mohnach.

Her Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church, Charles St. Boonville, where Rev. Sean P. O'Brien, pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to The Christ Our Hope Roman Catholic Community of Northern Oneida County, Memorial Fund, 108 Charles St. Boonville, NY 13309. Her arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
