LOWVILLE – Pauline Marie Johndrow, 92, passed away on Monday afternoon, July2, 2012, at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility. Prior to enteringthe nursing home, Pauline had resided at Brookside Senior Living Center and onPark Avenue.Pauline was born on September 10, 1919, in Croghan, adaughter of the late Thomas and Petronella Ostroski DuFlo. After her graduationfrom Father Leo Memorial High School, Pauline graduated from Watertown School ofCommerce. She worked for Dr. Arthur Peckham in Watertown until her marriage toA. Clarke Johndrow on August 12, 1942, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, withRev. Amadeus Burke officiating.After their marriage, Clarke was thedistributor of Shell Oil in Lowville while Pauline worked in the office. In1952, the couple bought DuFlo's Shoe Store in Lowville, renamed the businessClarke's Shoes and together maintained it until Clarke's death in 1975. Paulinecontinued to own and operate the business until selling it in 1981.Formany years, Pauline managed the gift shop at Lewis County General Hospital forthe hospital auxiliary, while at the same time opening her home to boardingguests on a short term basis. She welcomed her guests with a smile and very muchenjoyed visiting with them and sharing stories. She also loved to knit and cook.However, she was most proud of her family, especially her grandchildren andloved spending time with them.Mrs. Johndrow is survived by her son anddaughter-in-law, Michael and Jacqueline Johndrow of Warwick, NY; her grandsonAnthony Phillip and wife Elizabeth Inghram- Johndrow of Brooklyn and NicoleArdell Johndrow of Manhattan; her two brothers, James L. DuFlo of Lowville andThomas (Betty) DuFlo of Soft Maple; sister, Isabel Bush also of Soft Maple andseveral nieces and nephews.In addition to her husband, Clarke, Paulineis predeceased by her brother Francis DuFlo.Mrs. Johndrow was a devotedmember and communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church where her funeral masswill be celebrated on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev.Christopher Carrara, pastor officiating. Burial will follow at St. Stephen'sCemetery in Croghan.Family and friends may call at the SundquistFuneral Home on Friday, July 6th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorials in Pauline'sname may be made to the American Cancer Society.
