Lyons Falls- Kyle L. Riesel, 24, of Belmont St., passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2013, in the Town of Watson.
Kyle was born in Lowville, on April 22, 1989, a son of Charles D. and Helene Kiskis Riesel. He attended Port Leyden Elementary School, completing his education at South Lewis Senior High School, Turin. Kyle loved the outdoors and was currently employed as a skidder operator in logging operations throughout Northern New York with Van Alstine Logging Co. of Lyons Falls.
He was a very talented artist who greatly enjoyed drawing and sketching with charcoal. He enjoyed spending time on Black River, being with his friends; most of all Kyle enjoyed riding his motor cycle.
In addition to his mother, Helene, of Lyons Falls, Kyle is survived by three brothers, Randy Riesel, Graceville, Fla, Darrin Riesel, Schenectady and Nathaniel (Amie) Stafford, and their children, Dillon Smith and Collin Stafford, Lyons Falls; three sisters, Mandi Riesel, and her son Bentlee Johnstown, Tessa Hoffert, and her daughter, Autumn, Boonville and Emily Van Alstine, Johnstown; and his maternal grandmother, Alice Damuth, Schenectady. He was predeceased by his father, Charles, in 1992, and by a sister, Olivia Rose Van Alstine, on March 15, 2012. He is also survived by Lucas Dafoe and Justin Rombough; his two best friends since they were all in kindergarten together, and his beloved dog, Lincoln.
His Services will be Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Pastor Joe Feller of the First Baptist Church of Boonville, will officiate. Interment will be in Turin Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral. Martinsburg: Daniel J. Riley, 57, of 5612 Francis Street and formerly of Port Leyden, died Saturday, September 14th in St. Luke's Health Care Center, New Hartford after a long illness.
He was born in Lowville June 6, 1956 the son of John (Jack) and Sally Mashaw Riley and was a 1975 graduate of South Lewis Central School, Turin. He was employed as a paper maker at Georgia Pacific Corp and Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper. He was most recently employed at Lewis County Dairy in Lowville until he retired due to illness. He was instrumental in getting the Dialysis Unit built and operating at Lewis County General Hospital.
He is survived by one son, Daniel, Sarastoa, Fl. His mother Sally, Port Leyden, four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Amy Groczyca, Utica, Maureen and Bruce Stowell, Clarksville, TN. Sandy Riley, Port Leyden and Margaret and Bob DiOrio, Old Forge. Also surviving are two Grandchildren Alexis and Ryan, Lowville, whom he helped raise. One Aunt and Uncle Barbara and Dick Shue; three sister-in-law and one brother-in-law. Valerie and Carl Emerson, Port Leyden, Lori Ziegler and Sandy Eggelston, both of Boonville, nieces and nephews and many cousins.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 PM at the Callaghan Funeral Home, LLC, Port Leyden with Rev. Joan Ripp and Assistant Pastor, Jim Trainham, of the Bethel Nazarene Church, Lowville co-officiating. Burial will be in Port Leyden Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 11 until 1 at the funeral home, prior to the service. Donations in his memory may be made to the dialysis Unit at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, attention to Ed Ingersoll. A reception will be held after the funeral at the Port Leyden Community Center.

LOWVILLE, NY - Rita M. McLaughlin, 80, died at home on Tuesday morning, September 3, 2013 under the care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.
Rita was born on October 28, 1932 in Watertown the daughter of the late Harry and Hazel Karp Simmons. She grew up on the Swiss Road in Croghan and attended Beaver River High School.
She married Robert McLaughlin, Sr. on August 11, 1951 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lowville with Rev. Cotter officiating. The couple raised their family in Southeastern Connecticut where they resided for over 40 years. Rita was employed at some of the best restaurants in the area in many positions. She and Bob returned to the North Country where they opened Hilltop Bed and Breakfast on State Route 12 in Lowville.
Over the years she and Bob enjoyed traveling around the country as well as to the Azores a region of Portugal. Their favorite destination was Reno, Nevada where they enjoyed spending time with friends. Robert died on April 28, 2002.
She is survived by her children Robert Jr. and his wife Roberta of New London, CT, Rick and his wife Lynda of Duanesburg, NY, Russell and his wife Tracy of Groton, CT, Rise Balash and Ron Krug of Boonville, NY; her sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Richard Hardy of Lyons Falls, NY; eight grandchildren, Jason Balash and his wife Jody; Melissa Muha and her husband Glen; Frank Balash and his wife Jordan; Sara McLaughlin and Brian Smith; Christopher McLaughlin; Lyndsey McLaughlin; Jenna McLaughlin; Emily McLaughlin; Great grandchildren, Brooke and Wesley Balash; Alexander Muha; and Mason Smith. Also nieces and nephews, her brothers-in-law, George and Albert McLaughlin and their families. And her beloved dog Herki.
The family would like to thank Helen Larkins who for the past 5 years has given Rita special care and friendship. Also Paul Ingersall, Roxanne Marolf and Robert Swain for Rira’s care and Shirley Stogsdill for her special friendship.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 7th at 11:00 AM at Sundquist Funeral Home, 7676 North State Street, Lowville, NY with Rev. Ronald Pominville, Deacon of St. Peter’s Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Bourne National Cemetery on Cape Cod, MA at a later date.

GREIG - Carl H. Hardy, 64, of Greig Road, died Sunday morning, September 1, 2013 at the Lewis County General Hospital Emergency Room.
The funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Greig United Methodist Church with Rev. Billie Jean Melton, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Brantingham Cemetery. Calling hours are from Noon – 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the church, prior to the funeral service. Donations may be made to the family: Mildred Hardy, 5228 Greig Road, Greig, NY 13345.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mildred; three children, Monica and Edward Del Vecchio of Marlborough, MA; Scott Hardy of Greig; Jon and Lynn Hardy of Lyons Falls; five brothers, twins, Donald and Ronald Hardy; Gerald Hardy; Bruce and Cindy Hardy; Brian Hardy; two sisters, Carol and Doug Loomis; Barbara and Philip Boardman; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He is predeceased by two brothers, George and Edwin Hardy; and two sisters, Ruth Linda, who died at birth; and Alta Ruth, who died in infancy.
Carl was born on May 27, 1949 in Lowville, NY, a son of the late Edwin G. and Lina Lacey Hardy. He attended South Lewis Central School. On November 2, 1974, he married Mildred A. Dibble at Glenfield United Methodist Church, with Rev. Forest Hunter officiating. Carl retired from Nortz and Virkler, where he was employed as a mechanic.
Mr. Hardy was a member of Greig United Methodist Church. He was a retired volunteer fireman for the 3G Fire Department and Fire Police. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.
