Clayton J. Nellenback

Ava - Clayton J. Nellenback, 90 of Route 26 passed away at Rome Memorial Hospital April 8, 2013.

Clayton was born July 27, 1922 at Fish Creek, a son of John and Flora Seelman Nellenback. He grew up on the family farm in Fish Creek and graduated from West Leyden High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-46, and married Marjorie Buffett on April 14, 1948 at St. Peter’s Church, Rome. After their marriage they settled in West Branch and then in 1967 moved to their present home in Ava. Clayton was employed as a union carpenter for 50 years before retiring several years ago. He was a member of St Mary’s Nativity Church, West Leyden and Steczko Post, Rome and enjoyed hunting, fishing and an antique business which he was active in for 40 years.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie, of nearly 65 years; one son, Clayton Nellenback Jr., Monroe, Georgia; three daughters, Linda Goodman, Frankfort, Indiana, Grace Lilly, Boswell, Indiana and Dolores Myers, Richmond, Virginia; one nephew, Charlie Nellenback; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Clifford, Howard and Raymond.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, April 12, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Nativity Church, West Leyden with Reverend Lawrence Marullo as celebrant. Burial later in the spring in St. Peter’s and Paul’s Cemetery, Fish Creek. Calling hours will be held Thursday 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mills Funeral Home 301 Post Street, Boonville.
