Clarice Koziarz

Floyd- Clarice L. (Smith) Koziarz, 96, of Smith Road, widow of Stanley L. passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Wynn Hospital, Utica.

She was born in Rome, on November 11, 1927, a daughter of Earl Ellis and Florence Mae Yutzler Smith.  Clarice grew up and lived her entire life on the Smith homestead family farm, on Smith Road, Town of Floyd.  She received her education in a rural school, near her home, later attending and graduating from Holland Patent Central School, with the Class of 1944. 

On November 7, 1959, Clarice was united in marriage with Stanley L. Koziarz, at Westernville Presbyterian Church.  Thereafter the couple settled on the Smith homestead farm, which they eventually purchased and operated together for many years.  For a period of seventeen years, Mrs. Koziarz was also employed as a food server at Marcy Psychiatric Center, Marcy, retiring in 1982.  Mr. Koziarz, who was a dairy farmer and self-employed contractor and heavy equipment operator, passed away on July 15, 2022.  

She was a member of Westernville Presbyterian Church and for many years she served as substitute organist at the Camroden Presbyterian Church. 

Mrs. Koziarz was an avid gardener and she enjoyed canning and freezing the bounty of her vegetable harvest.   She will be fondly remembered for her talents in playing the accordion by ear. 

She is survived by a son, John S. Koziarz, Floyd; one daughter and son in law, Jean and Hobart Kraeger, Steuben; two grandchildren, Margaret Kraeger, Poland and Walter Kraeger, and one great grandchildren, Seth Kraeger and several cousins.

Visitation hours are Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. until 12 Noon, at the Nunn & Harper Funeral Home, Inc. 418 North George St. Rome, where funeral services will be at 12 Noon, also on Wednesday.  Interment will follow at Wright Settlement Cemetery, Rome.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Floyd Fire Department, 8367 Old Floyd Road, Rome, NY 13440 or to the Wright Settlement Cemetery.
